Sascha Görres, Director of Soccer, Virginia Velocity F.C.
Sascha Görres came to the United States from Germany to combine high-level soccer with a college education, beginning a journey that would lead to a successful playing and coaching career.
Michele Lapenna and Sascha share a special connection through the 2004 University of North Carolina at Pembroke Hall of Fame Team, recognizing one of the most successful teams in the program’s history. Their relationship, built during those years, has continued throughout their professional careers.
After competing at UNC Pembroke, Sascha played professionally with the Richmond Kickers before transitioning into coaching. Today, he serves as Director of Soccer at Virginia Velocity F.C., where he continues to develop the next generation of players.
Sascha’s story reflects the lasting value of relationships built through the game and demonstrates how the connections formed during a student-athlete’s journey can continue creating opportunities for decades.

Virginia Velocity F.C.Sascha earned All-American honors at UNC Pembroke and went on to play professionally with the Richmond Kickers.
In recognition of his impact and accomplishments, Sascha was inducted individually into the UNC Pembroke Athletics Hall of Fame, and the 2004 UNC Pembroke men’s soccer team was also inducted as a Hall of Fame team.
Today, he continues to shape the next generation of players as Director of Soccer at Virginia Velocity F.C., where he combines his international experience, collegiate success, and professional background to mentor young athletes.
